A little bit about myself, my name is Ron Medley, MD. MPH., with a particular interest in the development of health promotion programs to prevent disease and reach a larger population of people. As both a clinician and a patient, I have been on both sides of the fence tackling the epidemic of chronic illness, affecting up to 40-50% of the world’s population, most of which are related to lifestyle factors. As a clinician, I have experienced the frustration of recommending lifestyle modifications to my patients but not having the time or resources to help patients integrate sustainable healthier choices into their lifestyles. As a patient, I have experienced the seemingly daunting task of making sustainable changes in my lifestyle choices. Conventional medicine has its place in acute care but the future for the management of most chronic illnesses is lifestyle modifications and health insurance companies are beginning to offer coverage for wellness programs.
Viably literally means “in a way that is able to succeed.” It is a paradigm shift in our relationship with nourishment and movement from the externally guilt-driven “I should” to a more internally driven self-compassionate choice to live one’s best life. The vision for Viably Wellness is scaling to a name brand “go-to” for a holistic approach to attainable, sustainable wellness. Minimizing barriers to accessing nourishment and movement thru partnerships to provide discounts for fitness and health foods. Also, partnering with the health insurance industry to incentivize participation by offering reimbursements for wellness services or reductions in health insurance premiums. Charitably, a percentage of profits will be donated to non-profit organizations participating in the development of wellness programs at school-based health centers.
